When I was told that I had to play crazy knitting Lizzy I knew
immediately that I was in real trouble: I could not knit at all!
At school already I was famous for my oven-cloths ending up in
triangles instead of squares, because for some unknown reason,
I always managed to loose stitches along the line which finally
ended up in triangles. The same was true for all needlework and
handicraft I did: be it sewing, embroidery, doing crochet work,
or painting some work of art - it all had similar sad results.
My mother as an expert for all handicraft work was in total despair.
One day she gave up the idea that I will ever become a decent
housewife. The fact that I constantly stood in front of the mirror,
singing and using my hairbrush as microphone made my mother finally
give up. She suggested I should become a singer or actor and marry
a good houseman. Well, the first part has worked out fine
but
And now this new challenge: being a knitting expert!
I was confident that during such a production there would be certainly
somebody who could knit a scarf for me. But I was wrong - there
was nobody! So I was left completely on my own! Well, well.. Between
learning the text and rehearsals there was always this thought
in the back of my mind: heaven, I still have to organize for this
knitting! Suddenly I had a brilliant idea: my mother! I called
Mum immediately - she lives in Gelsenkirchen - and told her about
my terrible problems. He comment was: well, they have found the
right part for you! But in the end she did the knitting for me.
Thank heaven! She also showed me again how to knit. I was so thrilled
that I convinced myself that I will learn this knitting business
after all. It looked to be fun and was very relaxing. When the
filming went on and when I continued knitting this scarf, I lost
the stitches again. At that point I knew for sure: I will never
learn knitting!
